2009 MEMBERS & SPONSORS PARTY OCTOBER 4TH FEATURING JACKIE RYAN

Dear Janice, Dana and others,

The party last night was outstanding. The music was fabulous, the food was delicious and everything went off so smoothly.
Thank you for organizing this event. I know it took a lot of work and it was much appreciated by everyone. Sonoma Valley Jazz Society is doing a great job promoting live jazz. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Kathy Vincent

The party on Sunday was absolutely fabulous! Thank you, Janice for working so hard on it and making

it such a successful and enjoyable event. Jackie Ryan is truly world-class and I'm greatly enjoying her CD's.

The food was delicious too... I'll have to go to more of the dinners there.

I hope to see you soon at some of the Jazz events.

Thanks again, and I'm happy to be a new member of this group.

Linda Hohmann

Janice, I wanted to tell you how much my wife Judy and I enjoyed the SVJS party yesterday.  Everything was first rate – music, food, wine, people!  I had no idea what a treat we were in for when I sent you my membership check.  Thanks again to you and all the others who made this wonderful event happen!

Artist and Illustrator Rich Sigberman, whose dramatic jazz art was featured at The Lodge at Sonoma during Jazz Appreciation Month, created a special composition for the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society.

Jason Bodlovich opened the evening followed by his mentor, Randy Vincent. Brian Nova closed out the first set.

After intermission, Mimi Fox set the stage for the "old master" and long time friend, Eddie Duran who received a standing ovation at the end of his performance.

Eddie invited the "kids" to join him back up on stage for the finale, before which Brian Nova commented "Five guitar players of this calibre together in one place would be illegal in some states."

The sellout crowd responded with another standing ovation for all the artists.

The musicians honored us with an encore which you can view below although the video's sound quality is less than ideal.

Special recognition is in order for the inimitable Chris Amberger on bass and consummate drummer, Akira Tana, who provided flawless accompaniment the entire evening.

It was truly a night to remember!

Jazz Camp 2009

Sonoma Valley moves to the rhythms of jazz, and to ensure its presence remains with each new generation, the Sonoma Community Center encourages the young people of Sonoma to follow the muse by offering an annual jazz camp as part of its arts education programming.  Co-sponsored by the Sonoma Community Center and Sonoma Jazz+, in conjunction with Sonoma Valley Jazz Society. The camp was led by highly acclaimed local jazz singer Dana Land, with instruction provided by  a cadre of professional jazz musicians.

We took Jazz to the airwaves in Sonoma
