"An exceptionally soulful and creative blues artist..." ~All About Jazz
“Greg Nagy is an uncommonly talented singer-guitarist-songwriter whose music finds its essence in blues but sometimes interestingly crosses borders into soul and intelligent rock, New album The Real You is a shout of triumph.”
~Frank-John Hadley longtime DownBeat critic
"...Nagy’s vocals recall Boz Scaggs at his most soulful and sophisticated." ~SING OUT MAGAZINE
Greg Nagy is a multi-faceted artist whose songwriting, singing, and guitar playing seamlessly blend soul, R&B, rock, and gospel into a uniquely powerful sound. His debut album, Walk That Fine Thin Line, earned him a prestigious Best New Artist nomination from the Blues Foundation in Memphis and received glowing reviews from top media outlets like DownBeat, All About Jazz, Blues Revue, Chicago Tribune, Detroit Free Press, Living Blues, and more. The album also made a major impact on radio, debuting at #14 on the Living Blues charts and reaching #3 on XM satellite radio.
Building on that success, Nagy’s sophomore release, Fell Toward None, was hailed by Rolling Stone’s Ken Bays as one of the best albums of 2011 and praised by industry heavyweights like Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records. The record once again reached #3 on XM radio, further cementing Nagy’s place in the upper echelon of contemporary blues artists.
Following this momentum, Nagy was honored to perform at B.B. King’s Blues Club in Memphis for the Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, sharing the stage with legends like Buddy Guy and Allen Toussaint. His third album, Stranded (2015), spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Roots Music Report’s Soul/R&B charts and was named one of DownBeat’s Best of 2015. The album received high praise from Vintage Guitar, Soul Bag, Blues in Britain, and more, with international radio play keeping Nagy in high demand.
Beyond his solo career, Nagy was a key member of the acclaimed Michigan band Root Doctor, whose album Change Our Ways was nominated for a Blues Music Award (BMA) in the Soul Blues category. He has also collaborated with Grammy-winning guitarist Bobby Murray, Georgia Music Hall of Famer E.G. Kight, and blues icon Ronnie Earl.
After three years of touring with the Larry McCray Band, Greg Nagy is back on the road as a solo artist with his latest release, The Real You (2024). Already earning critical acclaim and heavy airplay—including Top Ten placements on the Living Blues Charts, International Blues Albums, Roots Music Report for Contemporary Blues, and Canadian Blues Albums Charts—the album showcases Nagy’s signature blend of raw emotion, heart wrenching vocals, and masterful musicianship.
A dynamic, soulful, and compelling performer, Greg Nagy continues to captivate audiences worldwide. His live shows are not to be missed!
The Band
Bassist Karl Sevareid- After growing up in Los Angeles, Karl migrated up to the Bay Area just in time for the “Summer of Love.” He had been playing bass guitar in bands through high school when he realized “the crazy music scene in the Bay Area was just exploding.” He decided on a career in music and landed jobs in the house bands of Slim’s Nightclub in San Francisco and Larry Blake’s in Berkeley, playing backup with Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Etta James, Lightnin Hopkins, etc. From there, Karl played with Charlie Musselwhite for 15 years (legendary bluesman, reportedly the inspiration for Dan Aykroyd’s character in The Blues Brothers), made a couple of records and toured the country. Karl played with Elvin Bishop for 10 years (blues and southern rock) and then joined the Robert Cray Band for 17 years, made nine records (one Grammy award, for “Take Your Shoes Off”) and toured the world. They were often the opening act for groups like Eric Clapton and The Rolling Stones.

King, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Sammy Hagar, Joan Baez, Moby, James Cotton, Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Huey Lewis, Clarence Clemmons, Jimmie Vaughan, Angela Strehli, Annie Sampson, Marcia Ball, Chris Cain, Daniel Castro, Roy Rogers, Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Muldaur, Shana Morrison, Terrie Odabi, Pamela Rose, Linda Tillery, Elvin Bishop, Huey Lewis, Joe Louis Walker, Bo Diddley, Roy Gaines, Ron Hacker, Pinetop Perkins, Mitch Woods, Mark Hummel, Tia Carroll and many more!

Guitarist Takezo Takeda– Yoshinobu Takeda, a.k.a. Takezo, was born in Kagawa, Japan, and grew up in Kyoto. Takezo began singing in bands and composing music at the age of 12. Among his earliest influences were American movie soundtracks, The Beatles, and Otis Redding. His instincts brought him to San Francisco, California in 1985 to pursue a career in music. Since then, he has performed as a rhythm and blues singer/guitarist with artists such as Elvin Bishop, Angela Strehli, Joe Louis Walker, Norton Buffalo, and many others.
